Tracking Internet Usage
Armstrong connected the first Zoom customer in Connellsville, PA back in November 1997. Since then, the Internet has evolved from a simple communication tool used by few to an integral part of life for many.
Since introducing Zoom, Armstrong has and continues to invest millions of dollars in its network to provide customers with the most affordable, reliable Internet experience available.
As the Internet continues to grow in popularity and functionality, Armstrong has created a tool to help customers understand and manage their Internet Usage.
Internet Usage FAQ
-
How can I monitor my Internet Usage?
Internet Usage may be monitored by logging in to your account at
ArmstrongOneWire.com. You will be able to see your household Internet Usage compared to an average.
-
Why is Armstrong showing me this information?
Armstrong is providing this tool to help you understand your Internet Usage. If you do not use the Internet a lot and your usage is high compared to other Zoom users, your computer may be infected with a virus or spyware. Also, if you have a wireless router, someone else might be using your Internet connection without your knowledge.
-
Will faster Internet speeds cause me to use more?
Not necessarily. If two people are doing the same tasks online, using the same amount of bandwidth, the one with the faster speed will simply complete tasks faster than the one with slower speed.
-
How is Internet Usage measured?
Much like electric usage is measured in kilowatts and water usage is measured in gallons, Internet Usage is measured in megabytes (MB) and gigabytes (GB).
-
Megabyte (MB) - unit of computer memory or data storage capacity equal to 1,024 kilobytes (KB).
Gigabyte (GB) - unit of computer memory or data storage capacity equal to 1,024 MB.
-
How much data could I download per GB?
- You could send 200,000 plain text e-mails (at 5 KB/e-mail)
- You could download 250 songs (at 4 MB/song)
- You could upload 100 hi-resolution digital photos (at 10 MB/photo)
- You could download half of a standard-definition movie (at 2 GB/movie)
-
What is included in Internet Usage?
All traffic to your Armstrong modem(s) is measured except certain network communication traffic. If you subscribe to Armstrong's Telephone service and have a combined internet and telephone modem (sometimes called an MTA) your telephone usage is not included as it uses a separate communications channel in the modem.
-
Why does my Internet Usage seem to go up even when I am not actively using the Internet?
You may be surprised to learn that your computer sends and receives a wide range of data when you are not using it. For example, your computer may download operating system (Windows) updates, application updates (Firefox, iTunes, World of Warcraft) or virus definition updates (Trend Micro, McAfee, Symantec). In addition, if you use an online file backup system like Carbonite, this can also add to your usage as updates to files on your local computer are synchronized with a server on the Internet.
-
Does the dashboard display Internet Usage in real-time?
No. Internet Usage will be measured periodically throughout the day. The Internet Usage displayed to you will reflect the most recently measured amount. You will be able to view your current Internet Usage as well as 3 periods of historical data. The measurement period coincides with your current billing cycle.
-
What if I want to archive all of my Internet Usage?
If you would like to retain more than the current period and 3 periods of historical Internet Usage, you will need to print a copy of the information for your records. Armstrong will not provide additional, historical data.
-
How will Internet Usage be displayed?
Internet Usage will be reported in full Gigabytes with 2 digits to the right of the decimal point to indicate how close you are to the next full GB.
